OPENING RECEPTION “SAP | Corey Sherrard, Jr.” at The LAR Gallery

June 26 @ 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

EXHIBIT ON VIEW JUNE 26–JULY 26, 2026: The Lanecia A. Rouse Gallery (The LAR Gallery) presents SAP, a solo exhibition by Houston-based artist Corey Sherrard Jr. Through multimedia works and sound installation, Sherrard explores memory, collection, and cultural preservation, using the life force of trees as a metaphor for the traditions, histories, and knowledge that are gathered, carried forward, and transformed across generations.

OPENING RECEPTION: Friday, June 26, 2026 | 6:30–8:30 PM

At the heart of SAP is the idea that what we collect—objects, stories, music, rituals, and experiences—shapes both personal identity and collective history. Sherrard considers collections as living archives that reveal what societies choose to preserve, what is forgotten, and how systems of power influence those decisions.

The installation also functions as an immersive listening environment and performance space, drawing inspiration from community-driven media platforms including Houston’s Ice House Radio, Berlin’s Refuge Worldwide, the Black Arts Repertory Theater/School, the Internet Archive, and Are.na. Like the lifeblood of a tree, SAP suggests that the media, interactions, and traditions we cultivate become the sustaining force of our cultural memory.

The exhibition takes its title from Sherrard’s ongoing radio project, SAP, a quarterly broadcast on WGXC 90.7 FM in Acra, New York, extending the artist’s exploration of sound, storytelling, and collective knowledge beyond the gallery.
