OPENING RECEPTION “Frequency: Robert Leroy Hodge” at Redbud Arts Center | West Gallery

September 12 @ 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Free

EXHIBIT ON VIEW SEPTEMBER 12–OCTOBER 31, 2026: Redbud Arts Center presents Robert Leroy Hodge’s Frequency, a solo exhibition featuring more than 20 large-scale mixed-media collage works incorporating reclaimed vinyl sleeves, archival paper, fabric, hemp thread, paint and found objects. Hodge’s layered compositions draw on music, history and Black cultural memory, with works referencing figures including Thelonious Monk, Alice and John Coltrane, Octavia Butler, Marcus Garvey and Galveston-born boxing champion Jack Johnson.

The exhibition takes its title and conceptual framework from 432 Hz, an alternative musical tuning frequency that has become associated with harmony, resonance and the natural world. Hodge translates the idea of frequency from sound into visual form, using the rhythms of collage, material, composition, design and color to explore how sound and cultural memory reverberate across time.

OPENING RECEPTION: Saturday, September 12 | 6–9 PM

LIVE PERFORMANCE | JAZZ X CLASSICAL: Thursday, October 8 | 7–9 PM. HSPVA Jazz Ensemble performs jazz and classical music, followed by a performance by the Community Music Center of Houston’s ensemble, TAMBRE, with DJ sets by DJ Ingrid throughout the evening.
