MAY 29–AUGUST 15, 2026: Moody Center for the Arts presents “Masako Miki: Shapeshifters, Sprites, and Spirits” featuring a site-specific sculptural installation populated with spirits, shapeshifters, and other changelings animated by a longing for recognition and connection in a rapidly changing world. Visitors can meet a cast of yōkai characters transforming the central gallery and explore Japanese folklore through a screening of the animated series GeGeGe no Kitarō in the media gallery.

OPENING RECEPTION: Friday, May 29, 2026 | 6–8 PM (complimentary drinks and $6 parking)

Rendered through Miki’s vibrant visual language—drawing from Surrealism and manga—the exhibition reinterprets themes from Japanese folklore in a contemporary context. Centered on storytelling and myth as forces that shape understanding, the exhibition invites visitors to consider how imagination and joy can act as radical tools to challenge dominant narratives and inspire a more compassionate future.
