CONVERSATION “Rana Begum and Frauke V. Josenhans: No. 1573 Reflectors” at the Ismaili Center, Houston

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2026 | 6–8 PM: The Ismaili Center, Houston hosts a conversation between artist Rana Begum and curator Frauke V. Josenhans centered on Begum’s practice and No. 1573 Reflectors, a new site-specific installation commissioned for the Center’s permanent art collection and now on view in the East Atrium.
Based in London, Begum creates works that blur the boundaries between sculpture, painting and architecture. Drawing from urban landscapes and the geometric patterns of traditional Islamic art and architecture, her work uses color, light and form to create shifting spatial experiences.
Josenhans, deputy director and chief curator at the Dora Maar Cultural Center, previously curated Begum’s large-scale outdoor commissions No. 1187 Mesh and No. 1193 Mesh at Rice University’s Moody Center for the Arts. Together, they will consider No. 1573 Reflectors within the broader arc of Begum’s practice and its relationship to the Ismaili Center’s architecture and Houston’s cultural landscape.
