ARTIST TALK + TOUR “Time and Tide: Janavi Mahimtura Folmsbee” at ARTECHOUSE

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2026 | 5:30–7:30 PM: Join Houston-based marine conservation artist Janavi Mahimtura Folmsbee at ARTECHOUSE for a special evening exploring her exhibition Time and Tide, her research-based artistic practice, and how firsthand observation, science and technology inform her interpretations of marine environments.
Grounded in nearly two decades of scuba diving, underwater observation, scientific collaboration and engagement with marine communities, Time and Tide transforms Folmsbee’s field observations and research into visual abstraction.
The exhibition opens in tandem with ARTECHOUSE Houston’s new immersive experience, Twilight Zone: Hidden Wonders of the Ocean, creating a dialogue between two distinct approaches to revealing ocean environments that most people rarely (or never) experience firsthand.
While Folmsbee draws upon direct encounters with marine ecosystems, Twilight Zone uses immersive digital storytelling and scientific data to transport visitors into the ocean’s mesopelagic, or “twilight,” zone. Together, the exhibitions take visitors from sunlit waters into the deeper ocean, revealing the extraordinary complexity and constant transformation taking place beneath the surface.
