ART TALK “Matt Kleberg in Conversation with Hesse McGraw” at Hotel Daphne | Bar Daphne

September 30 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Free

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 | 7–8 PM: Cat Spring Collection + Hotel Daphne present Matt Kleberg in Conversation with Hesse McGraw at the hotel inside of Bar Daphne (347 W. 20th St., 77008). Kleberg will share his process, vision, and the singular visual language he has crafted.

Kleberg’s monumental commission, Jericho and the Technicolor Jamboree (Fence and Gate), anchors the hotel’s restaurant, Hypsi, with spirited energy and rich texture.

Matt Kleberg (b. 1985, Kingsville, Texas) paints illusory environments such as archways or stage-like openings in textured oil stick, often on shaped canvases which emphasize their architectural quality. He received a BA from the University of Virginia and an MFA from Pratt Institute, and lives and works in San Antonio. His work has been written about in The New York Times, Artforum, Hyperallergic and Glasstire, and is in the collections of the National Gallery of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Addison Gallery of American Art, among others. He is represented by Pazda Butler Gallery, Houston; Berggruen Gallery, San Francisco; and Sorry We’re Closed, Brussels.
