ART TALK “Four Perspectives on Photographing Protest” at FLATS

September 29 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Free

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2026 | 6–8 PM: FLATS presents Four Perspectives on Photographing Protest, a forum examining the responsibilities and ethics of documenting protests amid recent ICE actions and demonstrations across Houston.

Four speakers approach protest photography from different perspectives: independent documentary photographer Joe Robles; Raquel Natalicchio, photojournalist with the Houston Chronicle; Cesar Espinosa, lead organizer with FIEL Houston; and photo historian, writer and educator Cammie Tipton-Amini.

The conversation considers when photography serves a movement—or uses one—and questions surrounding witnessing, consent, accountability, surveillance and photographing moments of trauma, grief or arrest. Each speaker will give a short presentation followed by a moderated group discussion.

The program will be held upstairs in the FLATS Community Classroom, 2402 Montrose Blvd.
