ART TALK “30 Years on Gallery Row: A Conversation” at Catherine Couturier Gallery

SATURDAY, AUGUST 29, 2026 | 4:45–6 PM: Join the Visual Arts Alliance (VAA) and Catherine Couturier Gallery for a discussion celebrating 30 years of fine art photography on Houston’s Gallery Row.
Set within the gallery’s landmark exhibition, Thirty Years: The Legacy of John Cleary Gallery, this moderated conversation offers artists a transparent look at gallery operations, artist selection, and long-term professional partnerships.
On View in the Gallery
The accompanying anniversary exhibition pays homage to the gallery’s 1996 origins as John Cleary Gallery. It revisited the gallery’s inaugural show with a focus on master street photography and vintage prints.
- Historic Masterworks: Gelatin silver prints by iconic French and European street photographers, including Henri Cartier-Bresson, Brassaï, and Willy Ronis.
- The Original Purchase: Robert Doisneau’s Le Manège de Monsieur Barré (1955)—the very first photograph John Cleary purchased after studying under Rice University photography legends Anne Tucker and Geoff Winningham.
- Full-Circle Prints: Key historic works tied directly to the gallery’s founding, including the exact André Kertész print sold during the gallery’s original opening in 1996.
